How did we choose the best keyless Yale locks?

There are many great Yale locks available on the market. How do we choose the best Yale locks to test and review?

Style

When choosing the best keyless deadbolts or smart locks, we considered how they would look with different home styles.

We believe that your locks should enhance your home’s beauty, not detract from it.

These keyless locks are available in a variety of styles and colors so you can choose the right style for you.

Reliability

You must look for reliability when searching for the best smart lock. Reliability may mean different things for different people. One person’s peace of mind isn’t necessarily peace of mind for another. Yale understands this, as does we.

We’ve compiled a list of locks that offer different levels and backup options. These backup options include backup keys and power sources.

Extra Features

Yale smart locks must have great extra features to be competitive with other smart locks. Yale locks were able to compete with lock companies such as August Smart Lock, Kwikset and Schlage.

This meant that we had to find a Yale smart lock compatible with all types of smart home devices, and that could also connect to your smartphone.

This allows for different features like locks that can auto-lock, have multiple passcodes to guests and family members, as well as remote locking and unlocking your door from hundreds miles away.

Yale’s entire lineup of smart locks are capable of all of that and more.

What We Loved

  • Ability to send individual codes to other people to allow guest access
  • Can be set to privacy mode, which disables the keypad

What We Didn’t Like

  • Nest setup can be difficult and not user-friendly

This smart lock is our top pick for many reasons, including its simple yet elegant design.

.large-leaderboard-2-multi-114{border:none!important;display:block!important;float:none!important;line-height:0;margin-bottom:15px!important;margin-left:0!important;margin-right:0!important;margin-top:15px!important;max-width:100%!important;min-height:250px;min-width:250px;padding:0;text-align:center!important}

The smart lock is available in Oil Rubbed Bronze and Polished Brass. It also features a backlit touchscreen keypad. This smart lock is compatible with your Nest home system, which is an advantage if you want it to be integrated with other smart home devices.

This lock is a great choice because of its many interface options. You can use the touchpad to lock or unlock it, but also have the option to use your phone.

You can also assign guest passcodes for trusted people to allow them access when you aren’t home. This includes family members, pet sitters, housekeeping, and caretaking staff.

This feature allows each person to set their own passcode to unlock your house or business. Once the code is no longer required, you can delete it.

You can also set your lock to privacy mode, which will prevent any of the codes from working just in case you need a little alone time at home and don’t want to be disturbed.

What We Loved

  • You can give multiple codes and then delete them when they are no longer required
  • Beautiful design
  • Multiple options are available, including keyed and unskeyed

What We Didn’t Like

  • To interact with your smartphone, you need a hub

This Yale lock comes with a backup-key and keyless option. It is easy to install: all you need is a screwdriver and the instructions, and you’ll be all set.

We love the Yale lock because it can be set to different codes for different people.

Each guest and family member can have their own code. Other visitors like maintenance workers who need to come by when you’re not home can use a separate code, so you know who’s in the house and when.

The only problem we found with this lock was that you have to purchase the Access Upgrade Kit separately in order to connect it to your smartphone app.

The lock can be operated without it.

Aesthetic  4/5
Affordability 4/5
Reliability 5/5

Colors: Black, Oil Rubbed Bronze, Satin Nickel | MaterialStainless Steel| Voice Assist| Compatibility:  Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant. AirBnB. Philips Hue. Apple HomeKit.| Key BackupNo

What We Loved

  • Auto-locking and auto-unlocking feature
  • Communicates freely using iPhone and Apple Watch
  • August DoorSense will automatically unlock and lock your door

What We Didn’t Like

  • Limited connectivity

Although the Yale lock is simple and minimalistic in appearance, it has many great features that we love.

To start, you aren’t limited to this specific model because although some folks may be content going completely keyless, we understand that others may like the reassurance of a backup plan.

This model allows you to use a typical key entry, and it also comes with a backup.

The smart lock comes in black and oil-rubbed bronze as well as satin nickel. BHMA Grade 2 certified deadbolt. It’s also completely motorized and quiet.

Something we especially like with this lock is the DoorSense auto-lock/auto-unlock feature, which will lock after you close the door. You don’t even have to think about it!

Yale smart locks have a common feature that allows you to go keyless without worrying about the lock breaking.

If the lock’s battery dies and you are locked out, the bottom of your touchpad has a terminal that allows you to connect a 9-volt power source. This will allow for you to enter your code to unlock the lock.

It can communicate with the August app since it is an August DoorSense smart locking device. However, some reviewers experienced issues communicating with their lock using the app.

On The brighter side is that this lock can interact directly with your phone or Apple Watch. This is a cool feature that allows remote access to unlock and lock the door from anywhere.

4. Best Voice-Controlled: Yale Assure Lock SL – Key Free Smart Lock with Touchscreen Keypad

Ratings of products

Aesthetic  4/5
Affordability 3/5
Reliability 4/5

Colors| Material: Alloy Steel | Voice Assist: Yes (With Siri).| Compatibility:  Siri, Apple iPhone, Apple TV, Yale Secure App | Key BackupNo

What We Loved

  • Can you set a schedule for passcodes
  • Voice-controlled

What We Didn’t Like

  • Not very strong against the elements and weather

This Yale Assure smart lock is similar to the previous lock but has additional features.

It appears to be a simple backlit touchscreen at first glance. Connect your phone to it and you’ll discover a whole new world of features.

This smart lock is similar to the Yale Assure standard and can accept multiple passcodes from family members or guests.

Siri compatibility allows voice activation, and you get all these features.

Another great feature of this lock is the ability to keep track and be notified when the door has been locked or unlocked.

You can also set up a schedule for certain passcodes to be used. This means that if your petsitter is usually available between 1pm-3pm, it can be kept scheduled and updated if they arrive at different times.

We didn’t particularly like that the notifications don’t alert you to which passcodes were used to unlock and/or lock the door, and the fact that this smart lock is not perfect against the elements.

You should be aware that the touchpad can get damaged by harsh weather.

For added security, this lock comes with a backup option.

Voice activation can also be used with this lock since it is compatible both with Alexa and any Z-wave smarthome application. You can create unique passcodes to be used with the lock, just like the smart locks we have listed. It also has an auto-lock function.

This auto-lock feature is very popular because you can set the time.

This lock provides extra security because you can check your smartphone to see the status of the lock status if you leave the house.

If it’s unlocked, you can press a button on your smartphone to secure your domain.

However, the keypad could be a little better. We noticed that it wouldn’t light up until you began to type on the keypad. It also spoke when it unlocks or locks, which was quite jarring.

A physical key is also available as a backup in case the lock loses power.

This time, you can connect it to a hub. The hub is sold separately and can be used to lock or unlock anywhere. We love the simplicity of this lock and the variety of style options.

One problem we have, and it is the same with other reviewers, was that setting up codes can be tedious and time-consuming.

Once it is set up, the lock will be a great friend.

7. Runner-up with Handle Yale Assure Lever, Wi Fi Smart Lever

Product Ratings

Aesthetic  4/5
Affordability 3/5
Reliability 5/5

Colors| Material: Metal| Voice Assist: Yes (with Alexa).| Compatibility| Key BackupNo

What We Loved

  • When you arrive home, your door unlocks automatically
  • Create a schedule of passcodes

What We Didn’t Like

  • Do not have a backup code

Yale Assure Lever, a Yale smart lock, has many features and possibilities.

You can choose to have our second smart lock with door handle, with either a touch screen or keypad, depending on how your code is entered.

This lock’s best feature is its ability to unlock the door hands free. The door will unlock automatically when you walk up to it. It’s a warm welcome home.

This is because of the connectivity with your phone since it will sense its presence, and if you don’t have your phone on you, you can just plug in your passcode and walk on in.

You can also create unique codes and schedule when they can be used with this lock. You can voice-activate the lock using Google Assistant or Alexa.

We weren’t fans of the fact that this didn’t come with a backup key. However, the lack of a tumbler also means it can’t be picked or bumped open.

Colors: Polished brass| Material| Voice Assist| Compatibility| Key BackupNo

What We Loved

  • Simple design with a deadbolt
  • Beautiful finish

What We Didn’t Like

This smart lock is ideal for those who prefer something simpler. The smart lock’s polished brass finish is attractive and beautiful.

The touchscreen is a very durable glass that can face the elements and ensure that the numbers on the screen don’t wear out.

The touchpad has all-backlit illumination and can be activated by a gentle tap. Touch any button to lock the touchpad.

This Yale smart lock is similar to the others, and it also has a backup terminal for an 9V battery.

This lock is much simpler than the others, and we mean it. This lock is not compatible with any smart home apps or has any wi-fi connectivity.

If you’re looking for a reliable and simple smart lock without all of the technological setups, this is your lock.

9. Best Auto Lock: Yale Security YRD120 NR-0BP Yale Lock Oil Rubbed bronze

Ratings of products

Aesthetic  5/5
Affordability 4/5

Colors: Oil Rubbed Bronze | MaterialStainless Steel| Voice Assist| Compatibility| Key BackupNo

What We Loved

  • Can you create and delete passcodes
  • Auto-lock feature

What We Didn’t Like

  • It is not weather-proof
  • Acrylic on touchpad sensitive for the sun

This stylish backlit touchscreen is perfect for your door thanks to its oil-rubbed Bronze finish.

It also comes with gaskets, so your door won’t sustain any damage from installing this smart lock

Although this smart lock does not include a physical key for backup, it does have a terminal that can be used to charge a 9V battery.

It allows you to create and remove unique passcodes for family members, guests, and frequent visitors.

Another feature we like is the possibility for this smart lock auto-lock.

Although most smart locks on our list are quite resistant to the elements and can withstand the elements, this lock is susceptible to weather and the sun.

Its beautiful design is susceptible to rain, and the acrylic on the touchpad can wear out from the sun’s rays so it might be best used not in direct sunlight and somewhere tucked away from intense weather conditions.

10. Best with Backup Key Yale Security YRD226ZW2-619 Satin Nickel Touchscreen Deadbolt, Yale Security YRD226ZW2619

Product Ratings

Aesthetic  4/5
Affordability 5/5
Reliability 5/5

ColorsBlack Suede, Oil Rubbed Bronze and Satin Nickel| MaterialStainless Steel| Voice Assist| Compatibility| Key Backup: Yes

What We Loved

  • Simple and reliable deadbolt design
  • Multiple finishes to choose from
  • Super quiet operation

What We Didn’t Like

  • This handle does not come with a matching one

This Yale Lock is available in four colors and has two touchpad options: one with and without a physical key.

You have the option of going keyless if you are brave, or you can make sure you have a backup key. The keypad can be used in a variety of finishes and features, but not all options and features are available.

The deadbolt is also a BHMA Grade 2 Certified deadbolt that is fully motorized and super quiet, so you don’t have to worry about waking the neighbors when you get home.

This lock can be easily replaced with your existing deadbolt using a screwdriver and just a few minutes.

We love the fact that you can unlock your deadbolt from anywhere with one of many compatible Bluetooth or wi-fi devices. For some remote options, you might need to purchase a hub.

It is a deadbolt. That is great if your door handle is special to you. A door handle that comes with this deadbolt would be a great addition.

You can buy the handle separately but we recommend it because the lock looks great and even better when it has the handle to match.

The Winner

The Yale Yale Smart Lock is our favorite. Google Nest x Yale Lock. It is a stylish smart lock and is reliable and functional.

This smart lock is a high-end option that is affordable and offers a lot of capabilities. Multiple passcodes can be created and deleted for different visitors or people.

We love the privacy mode of this lock. This prevents others from entering your home and disrupting your rest. It can be connected to your Nest to become part of your smart home hub.

This Yale smart lock is a top choice for us as it’s proof of how far this door lock company has come in innovation and design.

How to choose the best Yale lock

All of these Yale Keyless Locks are fantastic, you really can’t go wrong but it really depends on what you are looking for.

Are you looking for style and elegance? Voice capability? Or maybe you’re looking for peace of mind with a backup key.

What should you look for in a smart lock? These are some of the things we recommend you keep in mind when shopping for smart locks.

Backup Key

There are two options for this feature. Both are very good. Yale Assure Lever is the lock for you if you want a lock with a handle that can be used in smart homes.

The smart lock comes with a backup key option as well as a simple handle. On the other hand, if you don’t want the handle, that’s okay. That’s where the Yale Security Touchscreen Deadbolt comes in.

It has the backup key but doesn’t have a handle and comes with a lot of compatibilities.

Voice Capability

Nearly all smart locks are capable of speaking through Siri, Google Assistant, Alexa or Google Assistant.

Voice control is fantastic, especially if your hands are full of groceries, covered in dirt, and you don’t want to muck up the touchscreen, or you just want maximum convenience.

If you’re interested, we suggest the Yale Security lock, which is compatible with Alexa, or you could go with our top voice-activated lock, the Yale Assure SL.

Honorable Mentions

1. Yale Key-Free Electronic Touchscreen Lock, T1L Classic Design – Satin Nickel – Considered for Weatherproof Smart Lock

This particular Yale lock didn’t make our main list, because it didn’t have compatibility with your smartphone app and we already had a more simplified lock on our list that we really enjoyed: The Yale Security Key Free

We wanted to mention this lock because it is simple and can withstand the elements. It also allows you to share up 25 key codes.

2. Yale Assure Lever – Smart Touchscreen Keypad Lever Lock with Z-Wave Plus – Considered for Most Stylish Handle

This lock model is identical to another lock on the list, but we wanted it to be mentioned because of how it looks. It’s a gorgeous oil-rubbed brass keypad with a handle.

This touchscreen has a backlit display, an auto-lock function, and can be combined with many home styles with its darker color. We like the overall design. Yale Assure Smart Keypad Lever with Z-Wave Plus Better, but they are both similar and worth a look.

3. Yale B1L Lock Keypad Deadbolt in Satin Nickel – Considered for an Affordable Option

An older Yale lock is our final Honorable Mention. Since a lot has changed since this classic keypad lock came out, it didn’t make our list because it doesn’t have as many features as the other locks.

This lock is not obsolete. It works with Alexa and Z-Wave. It does require the hubs to access those features.

Overall, we prefer the Yale Assure Lock SL It works well, stores many passwords, and proved reliable during our tests.

We will be happy to hear your thoughts
